A few years ago, I helped a friend gather his cattle and horses in late Autumn near the great divide in southern Colorado. Many ranchers have livestock roaming on BLM lands, much of which is in higher elevations lurking in the mountain shadows. The stock is brought to the valley pastures where they can be fed and cared for during some harsh win...

As a young child I heard many stories of the cattle drives north from Texas from my Granddad who participated in a few as a teenager. When you are out on the trail for many months in different seasons, you are likely to experience severe weather, especially in Texas and the Midwest. Storms often approach in a matter of minutes. It is run for ...

I have been told many times that I was born a hundred years too late. I am drawn to the romance of the past, its architecture and culture. My time in Europe was amazing and this painting of ancient Venice at sunset is a reminder of a different time and a different place. A place where art and architecture were elevated to great heights. It wi...

This painting was inspired by a visit to the four corners area of the great southwest. The ancient native Americans left petroglyphs throughout the area. Often carved or painted on canyon walls, they left stories of their lives for generations to come. I have been intrigued by the Ancient Ones for many decades and visit the area as often as I...

One of the greatest assets a cowboy has is a good cowgirl. So many women today run ranches, rope and ride and love the western way of life. Many of these women whom I have been blessed to know, such as my Mom, were very close to their families through many good times and many difficult times as well. Positive attitudes and proper ambition are...

Often times the trails were long and the weather challenging. The cowboys were relieved to get to town with their herd where a hot meal and a good rest awaited. On this uncommonly wet night in El Paso several months of hard work is about to see the pay day.

Camden, Maine is the setting for this beautiful harbor sunset. On a trip to New England several years ago to photograph Fall foliage I stayed in a beautiful old home. Every evening I had this beautiful view and couldn’t resist capturing it on canvas.

While on a trip to photograph several areas in California, I found myself unexpectedly captivated by the stunning sights in Yosemite National Park. I have painted several scenes from that park since but never captured its true magnificence as created by God.

This painting is set back at the turn of the century in the beautiful Texas hill country town of Fredericksburg. Snow is a rare occasion in central Texas but it graced the streets on this winter evening, the faithful citizens were undaunted by the cold drawn to the lights in the church.

It takes a special person to be an expert horseman, to break, train and communicate with his steed. On this fall day, this man is moving his string of horses to the working pens where he will be working with them every day. His reputation rests upon his results.

At age 19 I was blessed to be represented by the Country Store Gallery in Austin, Texas. The owner was importing paintings from France by Edouard Cortes and encouraged me to study them carefully as Cortes was a master of light and mood. He was a great influence on many Texas artists in the early 1970’s and a great inspiration to me.

While driving through southern New Mexico a few years ago, I spotted the rider silhouetted against a contrasting sundown. His lariat was swinging as he chased three horses through the chamisa covered pastures. I don’t know if he caught the horse but I am sure he was thankful for the much needed rain.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has been one of my favorited travel destinations for many years. The charm of the cobblestone streets, gorgeous climbing bougainvillea, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean are addicting. Diving and fishing were some of my fondest memories as well as the beautiful sunsets and soothing salty breezes.

Texas celebrated it’s 100th year of independence from Mexico in 1936. A huge parade in Austin took place down Congress Avenue. The streets were lined with adoring fans. The Governors carriage makes its way home while the street cars begin their evening runs. This painting hung the Texas State Capitol for many years and is part of the artists...

A few years ago I spent 2 weeks rounding up a 250,000 acre pasture on a large ranch near Alpine, Texas. It was an old west experience with a chuckwagon and bedrolls on the ground. The cattle were especially wild, seldom seeing any signs of humans. Seems every time I would gather some cows from the mesa and begin moving them back to camp, at le...
